Charlotte’s Got A Lot isn’t just the catchy name of a website, we really do have a lot going on in this city!  So much so, that it was difficult to narrow down my top May Activity picks to just a handful.  After living here for over a decade and seeing how much Charlotte has transformed though, I feel confident you will enjoy this list just as much as I have. Without further ado, here are my Charlotte Must Dos for the month of May:

(1) Learn Something New By Taking A SkillPop Class

Not only do I love the concept of continual learning and taking classes individualized to one’s preferences, but I’m also a huge fan of this local Charlotte start up that has now grown to serving multiple cities! If you’re not familiar with the concept, SkillPop is a business that offers one-night adult learning classes in various locations all around the city. If you want to learn how to design the perfect floral bouquet, there’s a class for that! If you want to learn how to write your first book, there’s a class for that! If you want to learn aerial drone basics, there’s a class for that too! The list could go on and on. And it does – check out the full class schedule here.

(2) Charlotte SHOUT! Festival

This is the first year Charlotte’s hosting a festival of this scale. Two weeks of what one online publication dubs, “nothing like this city has ever seen”, Charlotte SHOUT! Festival is already blowing Charlotteans minds. A quick search of the hashtag #CLTshout will show the hundreds of photos of giant inflatable bunnies (yes, you read that correctly) and glow-in-the-dark massive seesaws located uptown. In addition to large scale public art installations, this festival celebrating Charlotte’s 250th birthday also hosts live outdoor jazz concerts, comedy tours, cooking classes, wine & cheese tastings and panel discussions. Here’s the full festival calendar!

(3) Front Porch Sundays

Calling all Sunday Funday lovers! This Southend staple features over 60 of Charlotte’s favorite vendors and now in a new location – Sycamore Brewing. On the first Sunday of each month (from April – November) swing by this event, sip on some kombucha (or beer), check out the food truck lineup and support local vendors.

(4) Rose Festival 3.0 at Vin Master Wine Shop

For all you rose lovers out there, this is truly the festival for you! Charlotte has multiple wine festivals throughout the year, but this one focuses solely on rose. Considering I special order rose from my local winestore, I’m one hundred percent checking out this festival.

(5) Music at the Met

Thankfully many parts of this city now host outdoor concerts throughout the spring and summer, but this one takes the cake due to the skyline city views!   And, you can pop in to any of the surrounding restaurants (Vivace, Dresslers, Pisces Sushi) for more food or drink after the concert winds down. Here’s the full schedule so you can plan accordingly!
